Catchy lead. Story presumably meant to inform, written in quasi-entertaining language, intended to subtly persuade with tongue-in-cheek jibes and shaded language. Last sentence almost completely irrelevant to subject matter, ostensibly a result of the journalistic inverted pyramid, actually implying you've got all the information required to make an informed decision about the topic of the article.

And that's the news, and why I don't read a lot of it.
